A lecture-performance by artist Ana Kuzmanić was held in the large hall of Pogon – Zagreb Center for Independent Culture and Youth. Kuzmanić took the audience through her life and educational paths, sharing a view through the lens of dyslexia which was recognized in adulthood. At the same time, she referred to the bureaucratic-textual pressures of the educational and artistic system.
“I wonder whether today it is possible to be an artist without words… Or perhaps more importantly, if it is possible to articulate yourself beyond words. And how to create space for the game within the ever-increasing bureaucracy.”
With this event, Kurziv also opened up the third edition of Critical Dramaturgy program, which dealt with the theme of unlearning.
Ana Kuzmanić is an artist whose practice is based on research and collaboration. Her work actively problematises everyday life, examining tensions between the individual and the social, politics and poetics, and seeking potentials for change. Using a wide range of media such as public interventions, sound installations, artists’ books, print media, performance and video, her work is often site and time specific. In addition to her own practice, she collaborates with the international art collective Eastern Surf and is an associate professor at the University of Split.
